Activities

The Institute’s activities and initiatives address specific issue areas of climate protection, energy and energy mobility -- from new developments in energy production and renewable energy to the emergence of revolutionary smart grids and promising electro-mobility technologies. The Institute’s broad activities include:

• Convening experts for interdisciplinary policy dialogues, conferences and seminars, such as the Summer Academy “Energy and the Environment” and generating focused scholarship on issues critical to energy practitioners, government policy makers, business leaders and academics.

• Involvement in the publication of scholarly research and analysis, including a periodic series on "Umwelt, Recht und Gesellschaft", the journals "Carbon and Climate Law Review (CCLR)" and the "Renewable Energy Law and Policy Review (RELP)" and other timely and informative periodicals that are released by Lexxion Verlagsgesellschaft (Berlin).

• Developing practical solutions and expertise through applied research and analysis in response to requests of Institute members, using dedicated working groups focused on each of our three principal focal areas.

• Supporting academic advances through a targeted doctoral fellowship programme for ongoing applied scholarship that responds to the research and policy needs of Institute members and the broader community.

Technical Expert Groups are dedicated to each of the Institute’s focal areas and develop focused research programs identified in collaboration with Institute Sustaining Members and with input of the Strategic Advisory Committee. Dedicated doctoral research fellows are assigned to each of the Technical Expert Groups to conduct the identified research and analysis. Technical Expert Groups will be constituted early in 2010.
