Yearbook of European Administrative History

Jahrbuch für europäische Verwaltungsgeschichte

The Yearbook of European Administrative History (German “Jahrbuch für europäische Verwaltungsgeschichte”, abbr. JEV) was published by Nomos-Verlag, Baden-Baden, from 1989–2008. It is the only interdisciplinary and comparative research periodical of its kind to date and essentially covers the administration of the 17th–20th centuries. Each volume has a different focal point. The JEV offers information as well as criticism on the state of research in the individual European countries. Contributions are published in German, French, Italian and English and are supplemented by an English summary.

The first ten volumes were edited by Prof. em. Erk Volkmar Heyen (Speyer, later Göttingen and Greifswald) in collaboration with Guido Melis (Sassari, later Siena), Jean-Louis Mestre (Aix-en-Provence), Vincent Wright (Oxford) and Bernd Wunder (Konstanz). The final ten volumes were edited by Erk Volkmar Heyen (Greifswald), partly in collaboration with historians who alternate, depending on the main topic, namely: Bernd Wunder (Konstanz; vol. 12), Luca Mannori (Florence; vol. 13), Jos C.N. Raadschelders (Oklahoma; vol. 14), Nico Randeraad (Maastricht; vol. 15), Guido Melis (Rome; vol. 17), Bernard Durand (Montpellier; vol. 18), Wolfgang E.J. Weber (Augsburg; vol. 19), Christian Kleinschmidt and Raymond Stokes (Paderborn and Glasgow respectively; vol. 20).

The JEV is primarily targeted at public administration scholars, historians, lawyers, political scientists and sociologists.
